LIFE IN CUENCA
Cuenca is the “not too hot, not too cold” Goldilocks answer for many of us “gringos” who are searching for “Valhalla” (home of the Gods) – where you can live your life in relative comfort without the pressures that life in the States (or elsewhere) brings. It is a delightful city that has a modern side as well as a rich cultural aspect. Old, historic colonial buildings in the downtown area are contrasted by very modern homes and apartments throughout the city.
Cuenca is, of course, not perfect, but it is a wonderful place to live. It is a good-sized city of just under 600,000 people with a lot of diversity. It is also an extremely safe city that is full of wonderful people who are delighted to share their beautiful neighborhoods with us. And of course, there are many expats (roughly 6,000 from the USA & Canada) living their chosen life to the fullest and always happy to make new friends.
